“How was Bible School today?” I asked Josh as we drove home from our morning at church yesterday.
“Great,” he replied with a satisfied smile, “My teacher PICKED ME FIRST when we were playing duck-duck-goose!!”
Joshua's green eyes sparkled as he rehearsed the play-by-play of the head-patting, circle-racing game they'd played.
When he had finished his tale, my littlest boy leaned back in his car seat and said, "I can't believe that big boy picked me first. I guess he just knew I was the fastest!"
I pictured a room full of wiggly kindergarteners and smiled at my youngest one's deduction.
Selection implies significance.
We don’t need to be five-year-olds playing games to understand the longing to be chosen. Deep within each of us is a quiet longing to be noticed, to be selected, to be favored.
The bride does not merely glow because she’s in love; she glows because she has been chosen by her groom.
The orphan does not just long for a family, but he longs to be chosen by a parent who wants him.
To be chosen imparts value.
To be chosen implies that we are worth wanting.
God has not just created us, but He has also chosen us.
And He takes great pleasure in the choosing!
God has never created a child who is not His favorite.
In the amazing complexity of God’s boundless love, He favors each of us as if we were His only.
According to A.W. Tozer, An infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to teach one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others.
God has created us in His image, with the capacity to fully love every child in our care without depleting another’s measure of affection.
As moms, we can tap into the power of the chosen and let each child be our favorite. But first, we must choose to embrace that truth for ourselves. We can not give what we do not possess.
Do you believe that you are God's favorite girl?
