After all, how was a woman steeped deep in diapers and sleep deprivation supposed to carve out time for prayer or Bible study?
How could a mom be still and know when her toddler never slowed his break-neck pace for an afternoon nap or a quiet night of sleep?
How could she pray without ceasing when The Wheels on the Bus echoed ruthlessly through her mind all day?
But after the birth of my fourth child, I changed my tune.
I realized that motherhood isn't a barricade but a launching pad for seeking the Lord.
After all, motherhood drops us in deep waters. If we're honest, we're totally in over our heads. We can't possibly meet all the needs of one little life. Can't tend perfectly the soul and mind and body of each child we've been given. Can't love them with the agape love they were created to receive.
Goodness knows I can't raise one child for the Lord on my own strength. Let alone five.
This job called motherhood leaves me no choice. I need help. I'm desperate for Jesus.
Motherhood drains me dry. And He offers to fill me.
Motherhood highlights my weaknesses. He shares His strength.
Motherhood leaves me with more questions than answers. He whispers wisdom and promises peace.
Motherhood is why I seek Him first. All the time. Anywhere. In any way.
'Cause here's what I'm learning about chasing God while chasing little ones.
It's not quiet.
It's not convenient.
But it is worth it.
Even if that means reaching for His throne while I'm perched on mine (the porcelain kind, of course!)
For a laugh-out-loud glance at my own desperate attempts to draw near to God in the chaos of motherhood, pop on over to MOPS today and discover how motherhood has transformed me into a queen!
And if you find yourself inspired by my amazing tale, go ahead and ask your children for the royal treatment this Mother's Day, too!
